These children miss many school days due to transplantation, follow-up procedures and biopsies. Children with a good school experience have increased self-esteem, are able to set goals, have healthier personal relationships, and are more likely to take their post-transplant anti-rejection medications.Caregivers of chronically ill children, who are often living on a fixed income, cannot afford supplemental educational costs such as tutoring.
