Pediatric patients and their families face unique challenges during the transplant process. Pediatric transplant families and pediatric living donors may apply for all GTF financial assistance programs. There are additional programs developed especially with the pediatric patient in mind, including the Tutoring Assistance Program.

Johnny received weekly tutoring at no cost to us and he was excelling by the end of the school year. Pediatric patients and their families face unique challenges during the transplant process.

Pediatric transplant families and pediatric living donors may apply for all GTF Financial Assistance Programs, but must follow the specified eligibility guidelines with one exception: pediatric renal patients listed for transplant and receiving Medicare coverage are eligible to apply for pre-transplant financial assistance.

This program also considers the special needs of the pediatric population. Please contact your transplant center social worker to discuss your specific need.

ELIGIBILITY & PROCESS

To apply, you must:

  • Be a Georgia resident.
  • Be a solid organ transplant candidate or recipient.
  • Show proof of financial need.
  • Provide evidence of working on a permanent solution to address the need.
  • Have a need related to transplant.

Application Process:

  1. Discuss your need with your transplant center social worker.
  2. Submit a completed application to your social worker or through the online application form below
  3. Provide documents to support the requested assistance.
  4. Applications will be reviewed, once submitted and complete.
  5. Requesting social worker will be notified regarding the review decision within three business days.
  6. Checks are written, payable to the vendor, and mailed to the transplant recipient's home.

TUTORING ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

Georgia Transplant Foundation developed the Tutoring Assistance Program to address the educational needs of children who have received a solid organ transplant. These children miss many school days due to transplantation, follow-up procedures and biopsies. Children with a good school experience have increased self-esteem, are able to set goals, have healthier personal relationships, and are more likely to take their post-transplant anti-rejection medications.

Caregivers of chronically ill children, who are often living on a fixed income, cannot afford supplemental educational costs such as tutoring. Therefore, GTF’s Tutoring Assistance Program’s main focus is to ensure post-transplant children have a successful school experience by providing financial assistance for tutoring needs in accordance to program guidelines.
